Q. What is a photography backdrop & how do I use it?
A. A photography backdrop is used to enhance images of products or people, setting a particular mood and creating a desired look for your photos. A backdrop can be printed on a variety of materials in a wide range of sizes to suit your individual needs.
For product photography we recommend using a size large enough so that your products can be situated at least 30cm in front of the backdrop (or be photographed from at least 30cm away for flatlay photography), and for portraiture photography we recommend placing your subjects at least one metre in front of the backdrop. This is to create depth to your images, making them appear as realistic as possible, and allowing the backdrop to be just that, a background to complement your subjects or products, not the primary focus of your images.
Photography backdrops are designed to be used in well-lit conditions, such as using studio lighting or adequate natural light, and are not designed for close up or macro photography.

A. Hi there! We are an Australian owned and operated family business based in Brisbane, Queensland. We specialise in designing and manufacturing the highest quality and largest range of photographic backdrops for amateur and professional studio photography, events and videography. With over 15 years in the international photography industry, we know just what you need to make your photography a success!
Q. Are your products made in Australia?
A. All of our Premium Vinyl and Poly Paper backdrops as well as our famous "Gatsby" Clawfoot Bath Tub and OzFrame Studio Solutions are made right here in Queensland and are certified Australian Made! Our range of fabric backdrops are sourced from a variety of locations, including Australia and some overseas locations depending on material availability. All our products are shipped direct from our Brisbane print factory to your door.
Q. What material are you backdrops printed on and how are they shipped?
A. We have several options for you!
PREMIUM VINYL is a 510gsm durable, water-resistant material that makes for the ultimate all-rounder backdrop! Suitable for all types of photography, from food and product photography, to studio genres such as newborns, sitters and cake smash, maternity, family and fashion photography.
Vinyl can be wiped clean, so it is perfect for those messy cake smash sessions, or for studios who wish to quickly and easily sanitise backdrops between sessions. Vinyl backdrops are shipped rolled on or in a cardboard core, and large vinyls over 3m are folded in half and then rolled for shipping due to carrier restrictions.
Store your vinyl backdrops rolled up in the storage tube provided, or attached to your backdrop hanging system for constant use. The perfect reusable alternative to seamless paper. You will get years of life from your vinyl backdrops!
STRETCH FABRIC is a 260gsm polyester material with great 4-way stretch so that you can easily clamp onto a regular backdrop stand, stretch it out on the floor with weights on the edges, or use as beanbag fabric. Add a pole pocket to your fabric backdrop for an even easier hanging solution.
With stunning print quality, machine washable, dryer and iron safe, our Stretch Fabric is ideal for use as wall backdrops and newborn floors. Store it folded just like a t-shirt. Easy! Fabric backdrops are shipped folded in a satchel.
FABRIC FRAME SLEEVES are a 320gsm luxuriously soft polyester material with a silicone edge that are compatible with our exclusive Australian Made OzFrame Studio Solution, as well as with aluminium fabric frames from Easiframe, Graceland Designs and various other silicone edge graphic frame suppliers.
State-of-the-art dye-sublimation printing gives you beautifully vibrant colours, and these backdrops are machine washable and wrinkle resistant. Our Fabric Frame Sleeves are ideal for newborn, sitters and cake smash!
POLY PAPER is a 200gsm synthetic coated paper which is super lightweight and excellent print quality. Just like a poster, our Poly Paper is easy to tape or tack to your wall for quick set up and pull down.
We recommend Poly Paper for use as wall backdrops, or for careful use as floor drops. Please note that Poly Paper is not waterproof, so use cautiously for cake smash. Store your Poly Paper backdrops rolled up in the storage tube provided.
NEOPRENE MAT FLOORS are a 2mm thick rubber-backed floor drop option, which are machine washable,and steamer and vacuum safe. Printed on our unique silky smooth and sturdy wetsuit-like material with stunning print quality, they are ideal for floor-based photography such as newborn and sitters. Store your Neoprene Mats laying flat on your studio floor, and transport them easily by rolling or folding. Available in our full range of designs!
PLEASE NOTE: Finished backdrop size can vary by up to approximately 5cm (2 inches) depending on the material, due to fabric shrinkage during the dye sublimation printing process.
Q. How do I remove creases from my backdrops?
A. For vinyl backdrops, you can tightly roll the vinyl the opposite way to the crease, and leave standing upright to help reduce any creases caused by laying them flat on the ground. You can also use a hairdryer on the unprinted side of the vinyl to drop any stubborn creases, and you can even lightly iron the reverse side of the vinyl by laying it on a smooth flat surface, and using the iron on low heat with a damp tea towel between iron and backdrop. Test on an inconspicuous area first. For large vinyl backdrops you can even leave them laying in the sun to remove creases.
For Stretch Fabric backdrops, you can use a handheld steamer to quickly drop out any creases, or put the backdrop in the dryer for several minutes with a damp tea towel to help steam it.
For Fabric Frame Sleeves, we recommend using a handheld steamer if necessary. Do not tumble dry.
For Neoprene Mats please run through a hot wash cycle and dry on the washing line. Mats are to be stored laying flat in order to avoid creasing.
Q. Will the colours be a perfect match between the different materials or backdrops printed at different times?
A. Printing on different materials using different printing processes means that there will be a colour variation between materials, and we cannot guarantee a perfect match if you choose to use a combination of materials, different size backdrops together, or ordering the same prints in different printing batches. For the closest possible match we recommend ordering your backdrop prints on the same material in the same batch. Please contact us prior to ordering if you wish to confirm compatibility.
Q. Will I get any glare on my backdrop?
A. Our vinyl backdrops are printed on a satin finish vinyl material and can be used with both natural and studio lighting. We cannot guarantee that all of our designs will be glare free in all lighting scenarios, therefore we recommend having a good working knowledge of various lighting techniques in order to avoid potential reflection. Some darker prints may be more sensitive to certain lighting and may require softer lighting for optimal results. We recommend having a good knowledge of lighting and practicing "feathering" your light, especially when working with dark vinyl backdrops. You are welcome to contact us with any queries prior to purchasing.
When using lighting with your vinyl backdrops please be aware that you may need to adjust the intensity or placement of your lights and/or backdrop so as to achieve the desired results. Fixed lighting in your studio as well as ambient lighting also need to be taken into account as they may affect your results.
If you are not confident with lighting vinyl backdrops, we recommend trying our fabric material instead as this has a completely matte finish.
Q. What is your turnaround time?
A. Small size vinyl backdrops and Poly Paper backdrops (up to 1.5x3m sizes) are printed in just 2-3 business days, and larger vinyl sizes (1.8x1.8m and larger) are printed in approximately 5-10 business days, right here in our Brisbane print house. Other materials have an approximate 3-4 week turnaround for printing as we print them in large batches in order to keep our prices very competitive. We do keep a large selection of fabric backdrops in stock, so check the RTS category to see what is available for immediate shipping!
Please do not plan your sessions based solely on our turnaround times as they are provided as an approximate guideline, and peak busy periods or unforeseen delays may occur, and shipping times will vary to different locations. Please wait until you receive your backdrop before scheduling photo shoots with it, as we cannot guarantee an exact delivery date.
Q. Are your Fabric Frame Sleeves compatible with frames from other companies?
A. Yes! Our fabric sleeves are compatible with frames from Easiframe, Graceland Designs, and various other silicone edge graphic suppliers. Please contact us if you wish to confirm compatibility with other brands.
Q. How do I fit a Fabric Frame Sleeve?
A. When fitting a Silicone Edge Sleeve into a compatible Silicone Edge Graphic Frame, the easiest way to get started is to tuck the corners of the backdrop in first, and then the centre of each side. This ensures that the backdrop is stretched evenly and the tension is distributed evenly during the fitting process. If you were to fit one side at a time into the frame you may find yourself stretching the silicone and struggling with the final corner as you are fighting against the tension across the frame. We recommend installing the sleeve a little bit at a time, evenly on each side.
Q. Who do you ship with?
A. For Australian orders, we ship with a variety of national couriers including TNT, Couriers Please, Fastway, and Star Track. For International orders, we ship with UPS, DHL and Fedex.
Please note that all orders are shipped with Authority to Leave.
If your order is damaged in transit, please notify us within 24 hours of delivery with photos of the damage so that we can lodge a claim with the courier. If we are not notified within 24 hours, any claim will not be accepted by the courier.
If your order is lost in transit, a replacement will be provided.
Q. My order arrived damaged. What do I do?
A. If you feel that your order has been damaged in transit, please email us within 24 hours of delivery with multiple photos of the damage so that we can lodge an insurance claim with the carrier.
If you feel that your order has a manufacturing fault, please advise us within 24 hours of delivery with multiple photos of the issue so that we can assess and arrange for a replacement if necessary.
Q. Will there be any other taxes or fees added to my order?
A. Australian orders are inclusive of GST (Goods and Services Tax).
If your order is dispatched internationally (outside of Australia), it may have to be cleared through customs. As a result, there may be fees that have to be paid depending on the country. Please note that Oz Backdrops & Props does not cover import liabilities that may be applied by the government of the destination country.
Q. Do you accept returns?
A. All sales are final. We do not accept returns unless an item has a manufacturing fault. If you feel your item has an issue, please contact us within 24 hours of delivery with photos showing the fault so that we can rectify for you. We do not accept returns for change of mind, minor colour difference, or if the item is not being used correctly according to our standard practices. If a return is accepted, return shipping is at the cost of the buyer.
Q. Can I cancel/refund my order?
A. Any cancellations are at the sole discretion of Oz Backdrops & Props, and cancellation fees may apply.
We begin processing orders as soon as we receive them, and all backdrops are custom printed to order in the material, design and size that you select. Once the printing process has begun, we cannot make any changes to your order.

Q. Can I use my backdrop for a Cake Smash?
A. Our vinyl backdrops are perfect for birthday Cake Smash pictures and newborns! So don't worry about the mess. Just take a damp cloth with water and/or a gentle cleaner (like soap) and wipe clean straight after your photo shoot. Easy!
Our Fabric Frame Sleeves are also suitable for cake smash!
We advise cleaning the backdrop as soon as your photo shoot is over, as it may stain if icing or food is left on it for a prolonged period.
Always test the icing on a small area near the edge of the backdrop before using all over to ensure that it does not leave behind any colour, as some icing has more colour pigment than others and we cannot guarantee that all colours will not stain.
Q. Can I take a photo using your backdrops to sell as a digital backdrop?
A. No. All our backdrop designs are licensed images and any copyright infringements are against the law. Please do not reproduce or resell any of our designs in any way.
